A design project aimed at combating racism in media and communication

Made with the help of antiracist and anticolonial activists this brochure means to educate journalists and the public on how to write and talk about racism in Russia.

Public discussions about racism in the Russian language have only recently begun, so there is still no consensus on which concepts we should or should not use. In 2022, we conducted around 100 interviews and rapid surveys with people who speak publicly about racism and coloniality in Russia, in order to find out which words they prefer. This booklet is a contribution to the beginning of a reflection on coloniality and racism in speech and writing. The views of the editors and respondents are not the only correct ones, but serve as an invitation to discussion. We have tried to compile a core list of questions where conceptual clarity is still needed.
